An Interview with Architect Bashirul Haq – an Architect, a Thinker, a Critic, and more

KNOWING BASHIRUL HAQ – AN ARCHITECT, A THINKER, A CRITIC, AND MORE

Bashirul Haq is a Bangladeshi architect who has made a significant contribution to the field of architecture in Bangladesh. He is widely considered one of the leading architects in Bangladesh and has been working in the field of architecture for over five decades. He is one of the most critically acclaimed architects in South Asia and is an unbound source of inspiration for our young architects. His works have been widely discussed and praised both nationally and internationally. Bashirul Haq's work is also characterized by its attention to detail and the use of natural light. He believes that the use of natural light is an important factor in the design of a building, as it creates a sense of space and enhances the overall aesthetic appeal. This is evident in the design of the BID building, where natural light is used to create a sense of openness and to provide a sense of connection with the surrounding environment. On a few occasions his fellows and architects got the opportunity to learn about his life and philosophy, but only to end up being more curious and wanting to know further. CONTEXT, therefore, takes the opportunity to publish this video interview where he talks about all aspects of ‘him’ – an architect, a thinker, a critic, and more.
The interview was conducted by Ar. Shafique Rahman for CONTEXT. After completing his graduation from Khulna University and Masters from the University of Sydney.
